1993 Aged Dong Ding Oolong Tea

A highly prized and carefully crafted Dong Ding oolong tea, aged from 1993. Roasted only once and stored in Taipei. Juicy and complex, with aromas revealing aged wood, dried plum, toast, and mineral undertones. On the palate, its sweet and fruity profile unfolds layers of flavor reminiscent of apricot. A pronounced smoky note, dark chocolate, orange liqueur, toasted hazelnut, and a slight bitterness. The aftertaste is long and persistent, while the sensation of Sheng Jin and Hui Gan is incredible.

What's so special about this tea?

This is an exceptional Dong Ding aged oolong tea, crafted and preserved by a master tea maker who spent his early years learning teamaking in Wuyishan, China, from great tea masters before returning to Taiwan to further his knowledge and pass it on. This lot comes from his personal collection: it was hand-picked in the winter of 1993, dry-stored first in Nantou and then in Taipei until August 2025, when we acquired it. It was harvested according to the one-bud, two-leaf standard in the Guangxing area of ​​Lugu, Taiwan.

During our visit, he explained that this tea was intentionally crafted for aging. He selected the winter harvest, worked with a medium oxidation, and applied his signature longan charcoal roast at a light to medium level, without re-roasting it afterward, all to give the tea the necessary structure and foundation for optimal aging.

Three decades later, that intention is evident. The tea is juicy and complex. When brewed, it releases an elegant aroma of aged wood, dried plum, toasted notes, and mineral nuances. On the palate, its sweet and fruity profile offers notes reminiscent of apricot, persimmon, orange liqueur, a pronounced smokiness that lingers throughout the session, and a touch of bitterness that adds depth. The aftertaste is long and persistent, with notes of dark chocolate and toasted hazelnut. It showcases the distinctive qualities of a well-aged oolong, with excellent Sheng Jin and Hui Gan.
