What's so special about this tea?

This Bi Luo Chun green tea comes from the Dongting Mountains in Suzhou, China, the birthplace of this prized green tea, where the plantations grow on the slopes beside Taihu Lake. This lakeside setting and its traditional brewing methods, passed down through generations, are what forge the authentic flavor of Bi Luo Chun.

It is a tea classified as Mingqian, meaning it was harvested in March, before the Qingming Festival. These first spring leaves offer a delicacy and aroma that later harvests cannot match.

This batch is made by a trusted master producer, who follows the traditional method by hand in a wood-fired wok. He pays close attention to every stage, from setting the dough to hand-rolling and final drying.

The dried leaves are thin, curled into a spiral shape (hence its name, Bi Luo Chun, meaning "Green Spring Snail"), and covered with a soft white down. It produces a yellow-green infusion. A light mist appears in the cup of the infusion, caused by the hairs floating in the water—a visual guarantee of quality.

Its aroma is reminiscent of a fresh meadow, spinach, buttered toast, grated apple, and pleasant floral nuances. On the palate, it is creamy and smooth, with warm notes of sweetcorn, zucchini, and chestnut, and a citrusy touch of grapefruit that adds complexity. It leaves the lips slightly oily and has a sweetness similar to rock sugar that lingers on the palate.

We recommend preparing it in a gaiwan in the Gongfu cha style or in a tall glass in the traditional style, also called “Grandpa”.
