1995 Aged Alishan Oolong Tea

An incredible aged oolong tea from Alishan, vintage 1995, with depth and lingering sweetness. Its aroma is reminiscent of old wood, tobacco leaves, dried flowers, honey, and quince. On the palate, it is dense, smooth, and silky, with layers of dried fruit, tawny port, persimmon, wood, a noticeable smokiness, and a touch of bitterness that adds character. Its coppery color reflects the tea's intensity. The aftertaste is long, sweet, and persistent, with very expressive Sheng Jin and Hui Gan.

What's so special about this tea?

This is an extraordinary aged oolong tea from Alishan, dating back to 1995. It was crafted by a master tea maker who honed his skills in Wuyishan, China, before returning to his hometown in Taiwan to practice his art and share his knowledge with the local farming community. This exceptional tea comes from his personal collection, hand-picked during the winter harvest using the one-bud, two-leaf method. The plantation is located in Shizhuo, Alishan, at an altitude of 1,400–1,600 meters above sea level, a privileged mountainous region renowned for its high-quality oolongs.

The master blender crafted this batch with aging in mind. The leaves underwent medium oxidation, followed by a medium roast with longan charcoal, and have remained untouched ever since. This style is unusual, as high-altitude oolongs from that era were typically processed with light oxidation to highlight their freshness and delicate aromas, intended for consumption within a couple of years. This makes this tea exceptionally rare: a high-altitude oolong deliberately prepared to evolve gracefully over decades.

After 30 years of aging, first in Nantou and then in Taipei until August 2025, when we selected it, this tea now presents an aged profile with sweet and fruity notes, accompanied by floral nuances and remarkable complexity. Its aroma reveals old wood, tobacco leaves, dried flowers, honey, and quince. On the palate, it is dense and silky, with flavors of dried fruit, tawny port, persimmon, wood, smoke, and a bitterness that adds character. Its coppery color reflects the tea's intensity. The aftertaste is long, sweet, and persistent, with very expressive Sheng Jin and Hui Gan. For enthusiasts and collectors of aged oolong, this is an extraordinary find.

We recommend enjoying it in a clay teapot or gaiwan to appreciate every detail of the craftsmanship behind this tea.
